Nissan Certified Pre-owned

If you're in the market for a new (or newer) car, one of your best options might be a certified pre-owned used car. Keep reading to find out if a certified pre-owned Nissan is the right choice for you.

What Is A Certified Pre-Owned Car?

A certified pre-owned (or CPO) vehicle is considered to be a "safer middle road" to take when buying used because they're not as expensive as brand new cars but they tend to be more reliable than non-certified used cars. CPO vehicles are gently used, perfectly reconditioned, and warrantied vehicles offered by manufacturers or dealerships. A CPO car is one that is previously owned, usually with no more than 60,000 to 80,000 miles and no older than five to seven years. The time and mileage warranties vary by manufacturer. CPO cars are backed by the original manufacturer, subjected to a rigorous, multi-point inspection and come with an extended warranty from the original date of service good at any dealer in the country.

What's The Difference Between CPO Cars And Regular Used Cars?

Unlike regular used vehicles, each certified pre-owned vehicle is required to meet certain strict standards, which varies by dealership and manufacturer. CPO vehicles must be in excellent cosmetic condition and be mechanically sound. If there are significant problems to the vehicle, then a car may be rejected for CPO status because it may not be worth the cost to bring it up to standards. A CPO car comes with a complete inspection that repairs any damaged or worn parts before being offered for sale. To get this same service when buying a used car, you would need to pay for an inspection and usually any subsequent repairs. A CPO car includes an extended warranty, a limited bumper-to-bumper warranty and a number of services, such as 24-hour roadside assistance. A used car usually only offers the remainder of the factory warranty and only if it's still in effect and fully transferable.

What's The Difference Between CPO Cars And New Cars?

New cars have a ton of intangible benefits. They have that new car smell and the wonderful feeling of it arriving to you with no miles on the clock. A new car warranty is pretty solid, and covers the car pretty nicely for at least three years. You also have the peace of mind that the car is brand new, and hasn't been mistreated prior to you buying it. However, as we all know that convenience and peace of mind comes at a price, not to mention the depreciation hit that occurs as soon as you drive the car off the lot. Some new car buyers can see a 40% drop in value off their car during the first three years of ownership! A CPO car compares favorably to buying a new car, and comes without that huge depreciation hit. Just like a new car, a CPO car is bought from a dealership, and gets a pre-delivery inspection. However, while a new car's inspection is pretty minor, involving unwrapping and unpacking the car, a CPO car is inspected more thoroughly. Of course it needs to be, since it was owned by someone else, and has already driven some miles.

Why Are CPO Cars More Expensive Than Regular Used Cars?

You can expect to pay up to 20% more for your CPO compared to a non-certified used car. Exactly what the difference is can depend quite a bit, especially on luxury models and brands. While that sounds like a lot, it's important to remember that CPO cars are held to a very high standard and so it's really an apples to oranges comparison to look at CPO inventory versus non-CPO inventory. True, you're paying for the CPO warranty on these cars, but we think the real value comes with the fact that Campus Nissan can only offer the very best used cars as CPO cars.
